Harmonize the proportions of your face for a balanced side profile nonsurgically with dermal filler in Nanaimo, Parksville and Langley, BC.

Did you know humans are naturally attracted to symmetry? Look around at the design of your house, your neighbourhood and perhaps most interesting, the faces of your celeb crushes. As humans, we tend to perceive well-proportioned faces to be more attractive. Several studies conducted have found the preference for symmetry to be universal for humans of varying backgrounds and ages, from four years old well into adulthood.

But here’s the thing, not all of us are blessed with perfectly symmetrical facial features and when we begin to treat some areas with volume-aiding treatments (such as fillers) while simultaneously neglecting others, more imbalance can be created. Recently, I’ve updated my treatment menu to include profile balancing treatments, which allows me to use as many syringes as necessary at a set price, to help my patients optimize their facial structure and create harmony amongst their facial features.

What is profile balancing?

So, what exactly is profile balancing with dermal filler? To put it simply, it’s a non-surgical alternative that focuses on bringing symmetry to your facial features by adding volume in the form of dermal fillers. By strategically placing filler in areas such as the cheeks, jawline, chin, lips, and under eyes, I can help you enhance your natural facial structure, while subtly addressing the disparity between features. My approach to cosmetic injections focuses on subtle modifications that result in harmonious transformations.

Traditionally, the harmonious balance we can achieve with dermal filler today was only possible through extensive surgeries such as: rhinoplasty; chin/cheek augmentation or reduction; blepharoplasty; fat transfers; and other facial surgery procedures with lengthy downtimes. Now, we can achieve the same beautiful results with treatments that take up less than an hour of your day.

If you have ever had a consultation or dermal filler treatment with me, you can expect a very similar process. The consultation portion of profile balancing treatments may be slightly longer than what you’ve experienced with me in the past as more than one area will be treated. My recent pricing restructure allows me to treat you with the appropriate number of syringes without limitation—the price remaining the same despite the amount of product used during your treatment.

I trust and use Revanesse®  fillers for my patients and for myself. In your profile balancing treatment, I may use a couple different kinds of  Revanesse®  fillers that specifically are tailored to the treatment area. For example, I will likely use Revanesse®  Kiss for your lips, but then switch to Revanesse®  Shape when treating your chin. The profile balancing process is uniquely tailored to each patient’s individual structure and features with the aim of striking a more harmonious balance between the various facial traits. I will, of course, let you know what I am doing preemptively along the way.

With the increasing number of patients opting for lip fillers specifically, I feel even more passionate about discussing profile balancing and why it should be considered. I know providing this important information will help you decide on what’s best for you—plus I know you will be blown away with the drastic difference a few subtle changes can make.

Why should I consider profile balancing over single-area filler treatment?

Once it was pointed out to me, I became fascinated with how we, as humans, are drawn to symmetry. It’s everywhere if you stop and look for it—this inherent pull towards balance. And while the reason for this goes back to evolution theory, with researchers believing that humans use symmetry as an indication of good health and strong genes (aka an indication that a potential mate was healthier for reproduction), let’s focus on what’s going on in the 21st century.

Recently I posted a reel on my Instagram (I’ll insert it below) that shows what familiar celebrities would look like if their profile was imbalanced. I used a face morphing feature to push each celeb’s chin, further back to demonstrate how disproportionate facial features can impact someone’s overall appearance. And while you may not have a receding chin to start, adding lip filler without addressing other areas of your face, could cause your profile to appear noticeably disproportionate and sometimes, unnatural.

In the same way those subtle artificial adjustments using a filter can completely alter the A-listers appearance, we are able to provide small tweaks via dermal filler that have very big, but real, results. By adding volume in strategic areas such as the temples, cheeks, jawline, chin, lips, and under eyes, I can enhance your facial structure, accentuating what makes you unique. It’s the subtlety of these adjustments that make all the difference, and I I know you will be blown away with the drastic difference a few subtle changes can make.

Why haven’t I heard about profile balancing until now?

As a Naturopathic Doctor and cosmetic injector for nearly seven years, I can tell you profile balancing as a concept is not new. I have always been fascinated by the unique complexity of our facial anatomy and it’s one of the reasons I transitioned my practice so I could provide a safe, more natural approach to botox and fillers.

But there’s been a shift in cosmetic injections since 2020 hit and staring at ourselves on screens became a daily ritual. The official statistics for filler’s popularity over the last few years has yet to be confirmed, but take one scroll through your feed and it’s undeniable that there’s been a spike in individuals seeking the treatment. TikTokers, such as Molly-Mae, are now beginning to understand that without taking a harmonious approach to dermal filler injections, the results are not all they crack out to be. What is often referred to as “Insta-Face” or “being overdone” typically does not occur because of the amount of dermal fillers used, but rather the placement. If you only treat your lips for months and years, it will alter your facial profile. By looking at the face and facial profile as a whole, we can determine the right treatment plan for you. Luckily, more and more cosmetic injectors are starting to educate their following and patients about the importance of balance and harmonious injections.

What should I expect after a profile balancing treatment?

Profile balancing has the same risks, downtime and prep as single-areal dermal filler treatments with me. Upon booking, you will be emailed your pre and post-instructions for your profile balancing treatment. Please note that bruising may occur with any dermal filler treatment and booking your injections within 3 weeks of an event is not recommended. What results can I expect from profile balancing?

But enough about the process, let’s talk about the results. Once any swelling fully subsides, your true results will be immediately visible. Results from profile balancing are subtle, yet produce huge reactions from my patients—and the confidence my patients immediately exude is truly a testament to the power of balance. Dermal fillers typically last between four and eighteen months depending on the individual’s metabolism, type of filler used, and the treatment area.

I choose to use Revanesse® HA fillers which use a spherical particle shape that was specifically developed to be accepted by the body, meaning your filler will break down slower over time. The Canadian-made filler is also proven to swell 51% less than other leading brands, meaning you’ll see your true results sooner and likely require less downtime.

As you can see, every individual will receive results unique to them and their facial anatomy. My goal is to help address your concerns in a subtle way that leaves your facial profile looking natural—you’ll likely get the “you look great” comments but people often can’t pinpoint what has changed, allowing you to decide to share if you so choose.  With every new face that comes into my office, I’m reminded of why I love what I do—no two results are the same, but the confidence achieved is across the board. Over my career as a Naturopathic Doctor and cosmetic injector, I’ve learned that every face tells a story, and my job is to highlight the beautiful parts of that story—not rewrite it. Every treatment is custom-tailored to the individual, focusing on enhancing your natural beauty, not changing who you are. The goal of profile balancing isn’t to create an entirely new face, but to bring out the best version of your existing features.

Profile Balancing on Vancouver Island and in Langley, BC

My approach to profile balancing with dermal fillers isn’t about creating a homogeneous standard of beauty, but about tailoring each treatment to the unique individual before me. To achieve this, a holistic understanding of the face is critical. For me, profile balancing isn’t just about individual features in isolation, but rather, the relationship between each. It’s the interplay between the nose, chin, cheekbones, top lip, lower lip and under-eye area that contributes to our overall aesthetic. By keeping these relationships in harmony, we can create a natural, more balanced look.

I don’t believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach—everyone has a unique facial structure, which requires a personalized plan. I offer profile balancing consultations at three locations: Xpose Salon in Nanaimo, BC, Elegance Sculpting in Parksville, BC and Avenue 42 in Langley, BC.  To book in with the location most convenient for you, click here.
