Everything you need to know about lip filler, cheek filler and face fillers in the Vancouver area.

Two things I’d like you to remember when reading through this comprehensive face filler guide: 1) Not all fillers are created equal and 2) Not all injectors will provide the same results (even if they are using the same brand of filler). Confused? If so, I promise to clear that up and all your other burning filler questions in this guide for face fillers on Vancouver Island.

I have been offering cosmetic injections to patients in Nanaimo, Parksville, Chilliwack and Langley area for over five years now. Prior to that, I was solely a Naturopathic Doctor. Though I was anxious about the response that my colleagues might have, the transition to cosmetic injections was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love boosting confidence and helping people feel more like themselves.

Not all fillers are created equal.

Before we dive into all the different face fillers and areas you can use them, it’s important to note that there are several filler brands on the market. Personally, I trust and use REVANESSE® and TEOSYAL® due to the incredible results I have seen in my patients’ and own personal experience using both brands. Other filler brands on the market include, but aren’t limited to: Juvéderm®, Restylane, RADIESSE®, Saypha® and STYLAGE®. Depending on the brand of filler, they will consist of different substances. Both REVANESSE® and  TEOSYAL® are Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, which is a naturally occuring acid in your skin. There are also fillers that consist of Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).

I choose to use HA fillers for a few reasons. REVANESSE® fillers use a spherical particle shape that was specifically developed to be accepted by the body. What does this mean? Your filler will break down slower over time, allowing results to last longer. The Canadian-made filler is also proven to swell less than other leading brands–in fact, a clinical study found the incidence of swelling was 51% higher with the comparator. This means you’ll see your true results sooner and likely require less downtime.

Treatment Areas & The Fillers Used

Dermal fillers are most commonly used for the lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jawline, tear tough, and cheekbones. For each area, a slightly different filler is used. Here are the six fillers I use most commonly for cosmetic injections on Vancouver Island:

  1. REVANESSE® – For general fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. REVANESSE® Kiss – To define and augment the lips and personal region.
  3. REVANESSE® Ultra – To treat mid-to deep lines and wrinkles, as well as fill medium volume areas (for example, the nasolabial folds and marionettes).
  4. REVANESSE® Contour – To treat large volume areas (for example, the jawline or temples) as well as shape and contour the facial features (for example, the chin or cheeks).
  5. TEOSYAL® PURESENSE REDENSITY I – Designed for the prevention of wrinkles and rehydration of the face, neck and neckline and most often used during mesotherapy treatments..
  6.  TEOSYAL® PURESENSE REDENSITY II – Specifically used for dark under-eye circles and tear trough treatment.

Not all injectors will provide the same results.

Though it varies slightly in each province and territory, fillers can (and must) be administered by either a  nurse, dentist or doctor in Canada–as a Naturopathic Doctor, I fall into the latter category. Each cosmetic injector you come across in your own research will have a slightly varied perspective and technique based on their education and  their subjective opinion. When choosing the right cosmetic injector for you, make sure you do your research and ask a lot of questions. Never feel pressured into getting more filler than you’re comfortable with or committing to any if you’re not fully informed and confident.
