If you’re looking for the lowdown on all things cosmetic injections in Nanaimo, BC—you’ve come to the right place. My name is Dr. Heather Iverson, ND and I’ve been providing cosmetic injections to my patients for six (going on seven) years. While I offer cosmetic injections in three locations (on the mainland and Vancouver Island), this breakdown will specifically focus on everything you need to know about receiving cosmetic injections in Nanaimo, BC.
I see patients in my beautiful treatment room located within Xpose Salon, (679 Terminal Ave N #101) every week. Last year, the entire salon received a major glow up, and that included my treatment room directly off the front reception area.

When you arrive for your treatment with me at Xpose Salon, please feel free to check in with reception before finding a seat in the bright, open waiting area. When it’s time for your appointment, I’ll personally come out to greet you. Stepping through the doors of my treatment room, you’ll be welcomed with a cozy, inviting and clean space designed to help you truly unwind and focus on you. The heart of the space is none other than the comfiest blue chair you’ve ever laid eyes on (so comfy that patients have been close to taking a snooze). Remember, this is more than just a clinic room—it’s a place of transformation and a haven for no judgment.
As you can imagine, good lighting is extremely important when performing any cosmetic injections and the two large windows in my treatment room let the light pour in even on Nanaimo’s cloudiest days. I have been loving working out of this space because everything I need is just steps away, making your treatment that much more efficient—a very important perk for those of you who squeeze in treatments over your lunch hour.
Every cosmetic injection treatment with me in Nanaimo starts with a built-in consultation to ensure we are completely on the same page. After listening to your specific concerns, I’ll provide some treatment options and answer any questions you may have about your choices. I will never pressure you to move forward with the treatment if you aren’t 100 percent comfortable.
Treatments vary in length depending on the treatment area, however all treatments end with post-care instructions to ensure you get the most out of your results and heal quickly. Upon booking your treatment, you’ll also receive a detailed email with both pre and post instructions for your specific treatment type: filler, botox and/or mesotherapy. If you are ever unsure of the specific dos and don’ts you can always refer back to my Botox & Filler Aftercare Bible or contact me with your questions.
Botox VS Filler: How do they treat wrinkles differently?
While the difference between botox and filler may seem obvious to those of you who are cosmetic injection veterans, this is a very common question I receive. To simplify: Botox treats dynamic wrinkles to prevent future static lines and wrinkles whereas filler adds volume, which can reduce the appearance of already formed static lines and wrinkles.
Most of the time when we refer to botox what we are actually referring to is neuromodulators, which are messengers that work to block nerve signals from reaching the muscles and temporarily prevent contracting that can lead to wrinkles. There are several types of neuromodulators but since Botox Cosmetic® was the first, botox has become the go-to term amongst patients and providers alike. The most commonly treated areas for botox are: Forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet, mouth lines and just above the upper lip (lip flip).
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances, typically hyaluronic acid, which add volume and essentially “fill in” skin depressions or folds in the skin (such as static wrinkles). There are also several types of dermal filler brands and types of dermal filler formulated for specific treatment areas. For areas of the face that you’d typically want more definition (for example, the cheek bones), dermal filler formulas will have a higher viscosity. Areas that you’d typically want a softer appearance (say the lips), we’d use a thinner formula.

How much does botox cost in Nanaimo, BC?
Botox, or neuromodulator, injections in Nanaimo, BC range in price. Typically you can expect to pay between $8 and $13 per unit on Vancouver Island. Botox injections with me (despite which specific brand we opt for) are $10/unit for your first treatment with me and $9/unit for subsequent treatments. It is important to remember that the price of your injections is only partly based on the price of the actual product. It is so important that you choose your cosmetic injector based on their qualifications and experience rather than their price. I actually wrote an entire blog post on what to look for when choosing a cosmetic injector in Nanaimo (or anywhere for that matter). While the video below is just for fun, please don’t ever choose your cosmetic injector based on pricing—I see you Grouponers!!

What brand of botox should I look for?
As mentioned earlier, there are a few different brands of neuromodulators. I personally offer my Nanaimo patients three of the four brands on the Canadian market today: Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport® and Nuceiva®. I do not currently offer Xeomin®. Everyone responds to neuromodulator formulas differently so there is no “right answer” of which brand is the best per se.
Each formula has its own unique benefits, which I have personally tested myself many times. For example, Dysport® is known for its smoothing, natural formula that is best suited for large areas like the forehead. Botox Cosmetic® on the other hand is ideal for more defined areas such as Crow’s Feet. My personal brand preferences for my own botox treatments may not match yours—everyone’s body responds differently! I recommend switching up the neuromodulator brand you are using every few treatments to avoid building up a tolerance to the specific formula. To learn more about this recommendation, check out my article The New Rules of Botox.

That all being said, continue to follow me on social media to learn more information about a brand new formula I may offer once it comes to Canada: DAXXIFY™. This new neuromodulator is advertised to be long-lasting with results evident for between six and nine months. Once I have access to DAXXIFY™, I plan to test it myself and complete training before deciding if it’s an option I’d like to offer to all of you. Stay tuned!
How will my botox results last?
Botox results typically last between three and four months. That being said, a lot of different factors contribute to the lifespan of your botox: muscle strength, metabolism, sun exposure, smoking, stress and hydration. Check out my Botox 101: Everything You Need To Know guide to learn more.
How much does filler cost in Nanaimo, BC?
Dermal filler treatments range in price even more greatly than botox injections. The formula and amount of product required will be determined by your individual concerns and the treatment area. While some cosmetic injectors choose to charge for dermal fillers on a “per syringe” model, I prefer to offer treatments with predetermined rates that allow me the freedom to provide you with the right amount of syringes (and formulas) for your need—without stressing your wallet. What brand of filler should I look for?
Just like with neuromodulators, there are several different dermal filler brands on the market today. My top preferred brand for my patients (and myself) is Revanesse®, the only line of cross-linked HA dermal fillers that is made in Canada. The spherical particle shape of this formula is developed to be accepted by the body, which means it breaks down slower and lasts longer. Plus, patients report having 51% less swelling compared to other leading brands so you can see your true results sooner. Revanesse® has several specific formulas designed for specific areas such as, Revanesse® Contour, Revanesse® Ultra, Revanesse® Outline, Revanesse® Shape and Revanesse® Kiss.
To treat the sensitive under eye area, I trust and recommend TEOSYAL® Redensity II. For overall skin volume and hydration via mesotherapy, I use TEOSYAL® Redensity I. Other brands on the market today (in Canada) include: Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Radiesse and Sculptra®. Not all dermal filler is created equal and it’s best to take the time to research and determine the best option for you.
How will my filler results last?
Dermal filler results can last anywhere from four months (typical for lip filler and other areas with increased facial movement) and 12 months (typical for treatment areas less prone to movement such as the under eyes). There are even structural areas (cheeks, chins and jawlines) that can last 18 months. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to predict exactly how long your filler will last. As we begin to understand how your body reacts to the specific formulas and how your lifestyle impacts the longevity of the product, we will be better able to determine the right treatment schedule for your desired results.
