I Tried Mesotherapy with Hyaluronic Acid and Here’s What Happened

by Dr. Heather Iverson | Mar 8, 2022 | Cosmetic Injections

Before recommending anything to my patients, I like to make sure I fully understand the treatment–and what better way than to try it myself? I’ve been holding off on writing this blog for a while now because I wanted to come at it with full perspective. I started...

SPRING BREAK NOTICE | I’ll be away March 21–28 for a short spring break. If you’ve been meaning to book an appointment, this is your gentle nudge to do it sooner rather than later.

The schedule leading up to the break tends to fill a little faster than usual, so if something has been on your mind lately, this is a good time to secure a spot before I’m away for the week.

DOING IT FOR THE GIRLS | 99% of the time, I’m doing it for the girls. For the women who trust me with their care, whether we’re talking about hormones, skin, aging, or the many things that come up when women finally have space to talk about their health.
They say we tend to dress for the women in our lives, but I think it goes beyond that. I want to show up as the best version of myself so the women around me feel supported to be the best version of themselves. I want to excel in my lane so you can excel in yours. If you`re seeing this post, please let it be your reminder to give an unprompted "you`re doing great" to a woman in your life. God knows she doesn`t hear it enough. OH and hope you enjoyed your 23-hour #internationalwomensday yesterday!

WHY PEOPLE ARE SCARED OF LIP FILLER IN 2026 | Tbh I haven`t seen a slow down in lip filler treatments in my practice at all, but here`s why I believe people are scared of lip filler:
1) The “overfilled” look online. Poorly placed or excessive filler is now often associated with looking older, not younger.
2) More public discussion about complications. Patients are more informed about risks like vascular occlusion, migration, and long-term filler buildup.
3) Distrust from inconsistent injector skill. Patients have learned that injector experience, anatomy knowledge, and product choice matter (more than $$).
4) The shift toward natural aesthetics (music to my ears). The current trend favours treatments that look like nothing was done. Even if this "trend" leaves, I`ll be sticking with it. Undetectable results > dramatic changes.

LET’S CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION | Over the last few years of focusing my practice on cosmetic injections, I’ve noticed my conversations with patients naturally moving beyond aesthetics. My passion for supporting women — especially those entering perimenopause — in understanding changes in hormones and energy has grown significantly. That’s why I’m expanding this part of my work as a Naturopathic Doctor.

I’ve opened a small number of spaces to support women through perimenopause and beyond, using a deep, evidence-based, lab-driven approach. To keep care personal and thoughtful, I’ll only be accepting a few new patients each month. To join, comment WAITLIST and I’ll send you everything you need to know to get started. BOTOX BIOLOGY LESSON | Why yours may fade faster than your friend’s…Your body doesn’t just “hold” neuromodulators; it processes them. Muscle strength, how expressive you are when you speak, activity level, stress, sleep, hormones, and whether this is your first treatment all influence how long results last. If you work out frequently or have a fast metabolism, it’s common to notice botox wearing off sooner.

Then there’s the product used, which also matters. Different neuromodulators behave slightly differently, and some simply last longer for certain people. What isn’t the answer? More units or overtreating. Longevity comes from thoughtful placement, appropriate dosing, choosing the right product for your muscle patterns, and spacing treatments properly. And while true botox resistance can happen, it’s rare (estimated in fewer than 1.5% of patients and @drkalebfalk 🫡).
Botox works on muscle, but skin quality is the environment. Treatments like RF microneedling with Sylfirm help rebuild collagen and cellular signaling, supporting healthier skin between your neuromodulator visits. Booking availability with me coming soon!
Questions? Let’s chat: @xposesalon @selflove.langley @parksville.wellness.collective @clinic5collective

DO NOT BOOK WITH ME | If you have the urge for a dramatic change (first off, I get it💁‍♀️), please do not book in with me—go see your hairstylist instead. Though now that I’m thinking about it, I’m pretty sure my hair friends may hate that advice (@xposesalonrachelle @erin.xposesalon @itsjaimemarie)? So, maybe sleep on it. The point is that while cosmetic injections can create a DRAMATIC shift in confidence, the transformation is not intended to be dramatic. Results with me are intentionally undetectable. BOOKINGS ARE OPEN | I’ve been impatiently waiting to share this. If you know me, you know I do not introduce treatments lightly. I research them, test them, and trial them on myself before they ever reach my patients. Sylfirm X PDRN VAMP™ impressed me. Next-generation pulsed RF microneedling that can target pigment and vascular concerns paired with regenerative PDRN to intentionally guide collagen remodeling.

Only available in Parksville, but open to any of my patients who’d like to see me there. The full nerdy scientific breakdown is live on my site now.

BANKING YOUR COLLEGEN | Did you know that by our mid-30s, we lose about 1% of our collagen each year? As estrogen begins to fluctuate (often years before periods change), collagen breakdown speeds up, skin becomes thinner, and recovery slows. Treatments like Sculptra® work by stimulating your body’s own collagen over time, helping support skin structure while it’s still responsive rather than waiting until loss is advanced. Supporting tissue health early often means better resilience, better healing, and fewer issues down the line. Questions? I’d love to talk Sculptra® with you, book in at any of my locations:@xposesalon @selflove.langley @parksville.wellness.collective @clinic5collective

Melatonin has helped me at times and especially with falling asleep.
But when my sleep stayed restless or unrefreshing, I had to look further.
That’s what this carousel is about. Melatonin is a signal, not the whole system. Hormones, iron status, stress, and circadian rhythm all influence whether that signal actually lands.
Sleep in perimenopause is rarely about one supplement — it’s about understanding the bigger picture.

Has melatonin helped you? Or left you confused?

This isn’t about crushing workouts.
It’s about doing what actually fits in this season of life.

Short. Focused. Repeatable.

Strength/resistance training in perimenopause isn’t optional, it’s protective.
For muscles, bones, metabolism, hormones, and long-term health and mobility.

If this looks doable… that’s the point ☝️

Let’s share ideas! What works for you??? Comment below 👇

I think most of us have dabbled with Melatonin 😉
But it’s actually the end of a much bigger pathway.

Meaning… there’s more to the story.
-Hormones
-Iron status (guilty!)
-Stress (cortisol)
-Circadian rhythm
-Genetics
All influence how well our body makes and responds to melatonin.

Shout-out to my friend Morgan @feed.your.genes for the work she’s done for me and in helping her patients personalize nutrition, lifestyle and exercise through a genetic lens !!

If you want to learn more I suggest following her page as well!

Does melatonin work for you?

Great if it does! But it’s very common that it won’t.
Sleep in perimenopause is about the whole system, not just what we take at night. I’m on a journey to really explain and understand all the pieces to the puzzle !

Give me a wave if you value your sleep 👋

Sleep issues can be the most frustrating thing 😫 I know because I’ve been there as well.

I’ve chosen to dive into the most common issues as we are approaching “midlife” (yes, I said midlife 😬) and entering our perimenopause journey!

I’m hoping to address some common issues and help you troubleshoot some reasons behind sleep struggles to give you back that rest you deserve 💤

Follow along, tag a friend who could benefit and comment if you have any questions!

Sleep disruption is one of the most common concerns I hear from women in perimenopause. Over the next week or so, I’m going to cover the most common sleep issues women experience and simplify why they happen.

This isn’t about “trying harder” or better sleep hygiene alone. It’s about understanding hormones, neurotransmitters, vitamins, minerals and how they all interconnect and change across a women’s cycle.

Save this and follow along if your sleep has felt off lately-or tag a friend who could benefit too!

Not gonna lie… I’ve been off my routine lately 🙋‍♀️
And then I remembered: perimenopause is not the time to ghost your dumbbells.

🦴 Quick bone facts we don’t talk about enough:

☑️ Women reach our peak bone density around the age of 20
☑️ Bone loss can begin in early perimenopause but accelerates during the later years
☑️ Women can lose up to 20% of bone density in the years around menopause (50-54)

🏋️ Strength training is one of the most effective ways to slow bone loss and reduce fracture risk

This isn’t about aesthetics.
It’s about staying strong, steady, and independent for decades.
Posting this because if I needed the reminder… maybe you did too ????

“YOU’RE FINE. JUST POWER THROUGH”
I saw it twice this morning.
Two women, one perimenopausal and one postmenopausal, both saying the same thing: “I’m scared to bring it up with my doctor. I don’t want to seem like I’m complaining.”

This isn’t rare. Women are still being told to “power through,” or that their symptoms are “just stress” or “normal for your age.”

But we deserve better care and better listening.

Every time I hear these stories, it fuels my passion to help women be heard, supported, and empowered to understand what’s actually happening in their bodies.

The conversations happening behind the treatment room door are changing and I’m listening.
Women want to feel good in their skin and in their bodies.
And I’m here for all of it.

Follow along at @drheatheriverson for how I support women from the outside, and here for everything happening on the inside. 🤍
