Perimenopause + Menopause Support
Dr. Heather Iverson, ND
What is perimenopause?
Perimenopause is the transition phase before menopause, when your ovaries begin shifting how they produce estrogen and progesterone. It often starts in your 40s (sometimes 30s) and can last several years.
Because hormone levels fluctuate (not decline smoothly) this stage can affect your cycle, sleep, mood, energy, and stress tolerance. Clinically, perimenopause is usually identified by changes in menstrual patterns plus symptoms; a single hormone test isn’t always reliable because levels vary day to day.
what is menopause?
Menopause is the point when you’ve gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. It marks the end of ovulation and a sustained shift to lower ovarian estrogen and progesterone production.
The average age is around 51, but timing varies. In the years after menopause, care often focuses on symptom support and long-term health—especially bone density, cardiovascular risk, and metabolic health—because these can change as hormone levels stabilize at a new baseline.
